So if you remember, at the President's cup Michael Jordan taught Anthony Kim how to smoke cigars and trash talk so Robert Allenby (look out!) got all jealous after Anthony beat him and made up some story about Kim being a boozer. Wait, that's not right is it? Oh yeah, just kind of. Actually, Kim beat Allenby and it was all pretty normal. He won 5 and 3 and it was the Presidents Cup so we all knew the Americans were going to win. But then Allenby DID actually claim to have it on good authority that Kim had been out on the town the night before, and had come home "sideways." So yeah, after that Kim got his feelings hurt a little bit, denied everything, and then as gentlemen who play golf do, both released apologetic/gracious statements and claimed it was all water under the bridge.
Flash forward to last week, when the two faced off on the course for a REMATCH SHOWDOWN! Kim, no doubt with his shirt tucked in on the front to show off his super awesome jewel encrusted AK belt buckle, didn't concede a single putt to Allenby all day. pwnage. Allenby was kind of ticked, but Kim said it was no big dealz and that's about as exciting as rivalries in golf get these days. Over at ESPN, Jason Sobel expertly explains why these kind of exciting challenges don't happen more often in golf. To summarize: There are too many golfers and even if they don't like each other, it's too rare they they are ever paired together in a tournament or match play. OR, they just act like Tiger and Phil, who secretly hate each other but just smile extra wide whenever they see each other because it would be too annoying to answer all the questions and do all the interviews otherwise (rumors). Anyway, it was kind of fun while it lasted, yeah? Don't you wish there were some more compelling rivalries in pro golf?
