To successfully execute a proper club toss, just follow these simple steps. Don't mess up the grip or your throw might go offline!

So I am playing this tournament in Wallace, Idaho. "The Babe Streeter Open" which is one of the biggest money games in the Greater Spokane Area and I am completely hacking. So I 3 putt a short par 3 to get pretty much as far out of contention as a man can get and I chuck my putter.

While this is not a shocking turn of events in my life (trust me I am not proud of that) the result is a first. My putter careens off of a branch in a tree and shoots upward and gets stuck in the tree.

I had to let 3 groups play through as I climbed the tree to shake it out. It was about 30 feet up in the tree.

I was covered in leaves and sap and only threw my club once the rest of the round ha ha.

I had the worst putter of all times and it ended it's life in a watery grave. i went with the over-the-head tomahawk technique. Very satisfying and also very accurate.

Haha, I do remember helping a buddy fetch a putter from a tree one time, much like Tom's story. We ended up also getting a rake stuck up there. With some sort of combination of persistence and dumb luck we were able to knock everything lose and move on to the next hole after about 15 minutes.

I used to be a club chucker myself in high school. During one fateful practice, trying to hit a par 5 in two, I chunked a 3-wood into a ravine and let that sucker fly. With a kind of over-the-shoulder toss I managed to send the club from one side of rough, over the fairway, over the opposite side rough, and about 5 feet into a pond. I could still see the grip of the 3-wood sticking up in the water, and in a kind of ridiculous blind furry I stomped over to the pond, took about 4 steps into the water, and soaked up to my waist, started walking back to the parking lot. I told my friends to go on without me and when I saw my golf coach on my walk of shame and fury I simply told him "I'm done for the day. See you tomorrow."

My 3rd year of college we had a bit of "team turnover" and there were a few newbies and me.

A couple of them (now very good friends) cornered me after a meltdown and proceeded to try to "convert me." As I sat there while they extolled me on the virtues of swallowing all my aggression and frustration I took it all in.

When it came my turn to respond, I came up with a gem that lives in infamy even today.

Them: "What do you think man?"

Me: "Does it bother you that I throw clubs and get frustrated at poor play???? Is that difficult for YOU??"

Them: "Well kind of......yeah......"

Me: "Then buy a helmet!"
