A "fifth" major? Or the only Major?

Postby Gus on Thu Aug 13, 2009 8:55 am

The IOC is considering making golf part of the 2016 Olympics! It is just down to golf or a 7-man version of rugby. I certainly hope that golf is the choice. What a great way to promote a game that people of all ages can enjoy! here is a link to the news story: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,539269,00.html??test=faces.

Could Tiger Woods be the first gold medal winner or will he be too old by then?

This would be awesome! 2016 would put Tiger at 41 years of age. Considering the way that he takes care of himself physically, and how committed to golf he is mentally, I wouldn't be surprised to see him still going strong at that age and competing. You know Tiger is only going to hit the course if he thinks he has a chance of winning, and I could definitely see him taking home the gold if given the chance.

It is the only thing the guy does not have above his fireplace. It will be interesting to see. I think it would be absolutely great for the game of golf. It would expose the game to so many more people across the world.

I say get golf in there permanently, but make it so that only amateur athletes can compete.

Get those college kids in there and let them represent their country. We get to see the best in the world battle it out every week.........

Amateur players would make this an even more special event.

I agree Tom, but ever since they allowed professionals in the Olympics, it has lost its luster. Get golf in there, but keep out the pros! I am on the bandwagon!

No matter the course they play, to the general public it might be a great thing. To golfers, we watch this every weekend. The only difference is they play for a first prize of a million dollars and in the Olympics they will be playing for a medal.

If Tiger wins it is a story. Anyone else winning is just another tournament.

I still say give me the amateurs or the semi-pros.

How about a group of PGA assistant professionals. THAT would provide some stories.
