Removable Face Wedges

Postby Kyle on Wed Sep 09, 2009 12:57 pm

Here we go. We've now come to this. Word around town is that TaylorMade and maybe even Adams are currently developing and testing and prototyping wedges with removable face technology. In the TM model that I've seen pictures of, there will be two little screws on the back of the club, with some strategic muscling preventing them from looking too obtrusive. In theory, you'd be able to pop in fresh wedges whenever you felt like it, without the hassle and cost of a new club/sole. Perhaps they'll even offer different kinds of faces? Different cut grooves? Different finishes? It's all very interesting, but as someone who hasn't yet fully embraced adjustable drivers, I doubt I'll make the plunge. What do you guys think? Cool new technology or just a marketing strategy?

Great question Kyle,

I say this.............

I don't understand. What I can't fathom is that somehow you as a company (Taylor Made) have managed to develop, in the span of one year or so, a driver that does everything and now a wedge that I will never need to replace.

That is an awful lot of faith in your marketing and advertising department to push next generation clubs for your company. If I never need to buy another driver, you can bet I will not be, the next year, let alone years in the future.

Now I can get a wedge, get used to the weight, balance, performance, appearance, and then just switch the face once the grooves wear down?? What will drive sales in the future?

This is going to be fun to watch!

This is going to confuse the hell out of people. When are we going to have machines to hit the ball for us, then out lazy butts can just sit in the cart and drink.
