Footjoy MyJoy shoes

January 14th, 2009

Customization. That seems to be the order of the day in not only the golf world, but in the world of goods and services. “Have it Your Way”, “You Want it, You Got It”, “Made to Order”, “Built to Specs”, NO SECTOR is safe from the rage of customizing.

Want your new car customized? No problem. What was that you said? Hold the lettuce on that Whopper? No problem. Want your irons built 2* flat with a shaft made in a country most have never heard of? No problem. And now shoes…

Heavy Putters

January 14th, 2009

Putters are one of the most idiosyncratic pieces of equipment out there. This club is the most important one as far as appearance and feel are concerned. You have to love your driver and irons and wedges, but you have to LOOOOOOOVVVVEEEE your putter. Anything else is just asking for trouble on the greens. Read more…

Golf Bags

January 12th, 2009

golf-photos-072My wife has a purse. I am reminded that it is not “just a purse” it is a “Coach something or other that I don’t understand with a leather strap that is stitched with a blah blah blah.”

Suffice it to say, I don’t understand the concept. She needs something to put her belongings in that she needs every day. It would be terribly inconvenient for her to carry them in her hands all day.

But why does she need different colors and different styles…and why do they have to cost an arm and a leg for each one? Read more…

Golf Tees

December 28th, 2008

tee_boxHere is something I grind over. Tees. It is a simple piece of equipment, but what does it matter in the whole scheme of things? Plastic, wood, brushes, etc??? WHAT GIVES???

My opinion on tees is much like my opinion on other parts of this game. If you believe it works or provides some kind of advantage, then it does. I am going to go through a few different tee constructions and see if something might work better for your game, or MY game…I sure hope so. Read more…

Golfing in the Winter

December 17th, 2008

Nothing is worse for me. I hate to be wet and cold. What is worse, I am not a big fan of wearing “layers” when I play. I typically do not wear a jacket at any time and if I must “bundle up’ I usually only go with a skin-tight turtleneck for warmth. I sacrifice warmth and dryness for range of motion. I am here to tell you, I get wet. But I have come up with a few fixes for those of you who do not like to layer up for wet conditions. Read more…

Flex and Flex Point

December 11th, 2008

Flex and flex point…there IS a difference?

Here is something that bothers me. Flex vs. flex point as it relates to shafts. Here is another marketing mess that can not only confuse, but scare golfers into submission to the golf companies every whim. Read more…

Round and Dimples pt. 3

December 11th, 2008

Okay, I’ve decided that I should play a “distance” type ball with good feel. I know I play in a climate that reduces distance, but has softer greens that do not demand I spin the ball a ton. Now what? I mean there are 20 different brands of balls that all say the same thing. How do I decide which brand of ball to play? Read more…

Round and Dimples pt. 2

December 11th, 2008

About 2 months ago I headed back to Vegas for a little vacation and to visit some friends. I lived there for about 5 years and just a couple of years ago, moved here to Seattle. Let me tell you, the change in performance of golf ball was DRAMATIC. Maybe you have had some of the same experiences. If you have not, here are some things to think about when you go on your next vacation. Read more…

Golf clubs I’m checking out right now

December 11th, 2008

The season has turned here in Seattle. I am bundling up to play, but I am soldiering on. I am eying some new stuff in the golf world for my own bag. I know what you are saying, “But you like your stuff you play right now. Don’t you?” Well yeah, but I am a golfer…always on the prowl for the next great thing.

Here is what I am thinking; Read more…

Golf Shoes are important

December 11th, 2008

My Dad never wears golf shoes. This guy will tighten up his ratty old tennis shoes and hit the links at any time. I know what you are saying, “You work in the golf business, cant you buy your dear ‘ol Dad some golf shoes?” Trust me, he has been well taken care of in that department. Yet he still wears his tennis shoes. He plays fairly well too, which begs the question…do golf shoes really matter? Read more…
