If Golf Isn’t Doing It For You……
The Olympics are starting to really heat up.
While I am not a big Olympics guy, I find myself drawn to watch this year. Could it be that they are being held just 4 hours North, or could it be the compelling story of the Canadian hockey team trying to win on home ice for the first time in Lord knows how long?
I am not sure, but here is what I am watching…….I am watching the hockey, of course.
Hockey is one of my favorite sports to watch anyway, but you put the best players in the world on larger ice and the game takes on a whole new life.
Seeing the US beat Canada on the back of 40+ saves was nothing short of amazing. It was not 1980 “Miracle” amazing, but Canada has, arguably, the best player in the world playing for them and is comprised of NHL vets, including, again arguably, the best goaltender to ever play the game.
I am also watching the Curling.
I know, Curling is boring and moves at about the slowest pace of any sport in history, other than poker (you see…….the TV poker shows are EDITED for action. A real poker game can take 12+ hours to play).
Curling is a fantastic game. The strategy employed are very similar to golf’s match play. Shot by shot the drama builds. The athleticism displayed by the teams is overshadowed by the pace of the game. But if you need a reminder, just check out the arms on the athletes. These men and women are in SHAPE!
The US teams are not very competitive at the moment, but there are great teams to check out. Canada men and women are very good, China’s women are the current world champions and just beat Canada last night to remain unbeaten in pool play. The German men are very good. The women from Denmark are very good as well.
Check it out if you are looking for good competition. I would suggest going online and brushing up on the rules of the game if you have never watched, or casually watched. The lingo and the rules for scoring are tough to wrap your head around at first.
Once you understand the game, it is a blast to watch!
