The Sun Mountain Speed Cart

July 31st, 2009

So I told everyone I “stole” the Speed Cart from my Father, and I finally used it this week. After years of lugging my bag on my back like “50 pounds of ice up 5-6 flights of stairs” the speed card was a welcomed change.

Someone tell my Father that he is not getting this thing back.

Sun Mountain Speed Cart

July 27th, 2009

I have threatened, for a long time, to get a push cart. For a couple years I have wondered if the hit to my ego would be outweighed by the comfort on my body come the 16th and 17th holes.

So it is that I came to acquire a Sun Mountain Speed Cart that I originally purchased for my Father. He stopped using it a while back, for reasons I am not at liberty to discuss (he’s crazy I tell you), and so I am the beneficiary of his lunacy.

WITB – Stewart Cink, British Open Champion Edition

July 22nd, 2009

cink_british_clubs

Here at GolfDiscount.com, we seem to have covered the sentimental and emotional side of this years British Open pretty extensively. And before I break down and cry thinking of what might have been, I’d like to stop and give credit to the man who actually made the big putts when it mattered, a deserving champion and new owner of the Claret Jug, Stewart Cink. I’d also like to talk about his golf clubs.

Golf is a strange game

July 20th, 2009

If I have learned anything from Tom Watson’s improbable run up the leader board of the 2009 British Open it is that the world, the golf world that is, is a cruel place to reside.

In the “real world” Watson makes 4 on 18 and rides off into the sunset the champion…..

In the “real world”

The 2009 Champion Golfer of the Year!

July 19th, 2009

I don’t really have words at the moment.

I truly feel as if we have been robbed of the most Historic moment in the game of golf to date.

No disrespect to Cink (who I really like) but it feels like the choose your own adventure book where you have cornered the jewel thief in the amusement park and the bottom of the page reads….

“To look in the fun house turn to page 74″

“To look under the roller coaster turn to page 50″

And you turn to 74 because you KNOW that he has to be in the fun house….when you get there….

“THE FUN HOUSE IS LOCKED THE JEWEL THIEF GOT AWAY”

It sure feels like a kick in the groin at the moment.

Tom Watson British Open Champion?

July 18th, 2009

Last year there was a real warm story this same time of the year when Greg Norman was atop the leader board at the oldest golf tournament in the world. Greg is a sympathetic character in golf since 1989 for most fans and his improbable run was something to get behind.

Little did we know that this was a sign of things to come…..

Golfing with Dad

July 17th, 2009

This week my Dad came in to town for a 3 day golf vacation. After a month of shanks and chili dipping ship shots and……well, just playing BAD, I was scared to death to do golfing of any kind.

Let alone 3 LONG DAYS…………. Read more…

Slow Play

July 11th, 2009

toms-031This is an open letter to slow play.

Dear slow player,

SPEED UP!!!! That 3 foot putt is not getting any shorter the longer you stand over it. That shot over the bunker from the hard pan lie is not getting easier by you walking up to the green twice to see where you are trying to land it. Read more…

Random Thoughts

Tiger Woods and Roger Federer

July 6th, 2009

If you are anything like me, you are a sports fan. Give me just about any sport and I will give it a chance. I have watched majors in all the major sports and have marveled at Cricket matches, Rugby, Polo, and other “minor” sports.

One of my favorite things is a “sports smorgasbord.”

Which we had on Sunday.
