I had the pleasure of playing a relatively new golf course in the Tacoma area last year. It was built just a few feet off the banks of the Puget Sound on a rugged piece of property punctuated by dunes and native fescue grasses. This course has garnered praise from near and far and, after I played it, was blessed with the golf equivalent of the Super Bowl. The United States Open is coming to my backyard in 2015!

Some of you know how I feel about Phil. To those I say, now is not the time for those feelings. Those that do not know how I feel about Phil are none the worse for wear.
Fact of the matter is that today is a tough day for the sport of golf….

Can you remember yours? I can remember mine…it haunts me sometimes ha ha.
I was playing the Lilac Tournament in Spokane, Washington at The Fairways Golf Course. The Lilac was the biggest tournament of the year for most of us amateurs. It was the only 4 day event and was aggressively flighted. It had a 0-2 level and a 3-5 and so on. There was also a professional division with, at the time, the largest payout in the State.
This was THE BIG ONE of the tournament schedule… Read more…

So…….I joined a bowling league this year. It is a “mediocre bowlers” league and I am very much a mediocre bowler. I have an extensive background in bowling. I would say that I have bowled 30 times in my life and rarely more than 3 times in a year. But I translate well to the game because of my golfing career.
I know how important visualizing the shot and choosing the spot the ball will roll over is. I understand the concept of spin and how it relates to the pins at the end of the alley. I understand the concepts, at a rudimentary level.
The problem is that I do it all wrong……

I used to work in a golf store that featured tennis as a prominent section of the business. We had a “tennis guy” named
Conrad who was, pretty much, a legend in tennis circles on the West Coast. He was an amazing guy. He strung rackets like nobody I have ever seen, and he was up on all the tennis equipment and techniques enough to talk elite concepts with Agassi, himself.
Conrad and I got in a fight one day. A knock down, drag out, battle…
I crossed the line…

Appropriate narrative order notwithstanding, first things first. Did you know that GolfDiscount.com has its very own Twitter account? It’s true, our page can be found right here. By choosing to follow us on Twitter, you’ll be updated in real-time on all the activity taking place on the site. New updates, recent blog posts–and most importantly–information on all our newest gear, closeouts, and latest promotions make up the bulk of our Tweets. Here’s the part where you’d normally read a self-depcricating joke about shameless self-promotion, but I’m not gonna go there. I thought the aforementioned self-promotion was rather warranted, if not also tastefully done and quite professional. Read more…

If you are anything like me, you hit the ball about as high as you are tall. It is a blessing in windy conditions, but is pretty much the worst possible trajectory for normal golf weather. I could hardly get the ball over a chain link fence, let alone a tree that might impede my path to the hole. What is worse, I HAVE to have the ball produce some spin so that I can try to have it stop at all on a green.
It is a battle…..but new golf ball technology makes it easier to arm myself for a golf round.

Let me preface this by saying that I am a “blade” guy. My eye just likes a blade style putter better than a mallet. I
can’t explain it, it just is that way. The thing is that I see the best players in the world putting with these HUGE mallet putters and I wonder if I am missing out on something?
They look like space ships on shafts, but do they work?
