Vegas Trip Part II
After a
great time with some great friends at Primm, we headed back to town for a rest and a meal. We had a plate full of BBQ and I retired to the hotel for some much needed rest. I forgot how tough 36 holes can be on a short fat kid. For years 36 holes was just another day of qualifying. I even used to follow the 36 up with a practice session if I didn’t fare very well through the day.
As I longed for sleep, I almost felt some fear come over me…I had another round tomorrow to play!
I awoke late and was rushing all day to get to The Revere (Lexington)for the next round. We were met with winds of 25+ and some of the fastest greens I have ever seen. I would guess that they were running 12 or 13 and were as firm as runways. The condition of The Revere was fantastic. I switched balls to my desert ball, the Bridgesone B330 S and we were on our way.
I opened up Bogey, Double, Bogey and leveled the ship with a dart of a Gap Wedge from 158 yards on the Par 4 6th. I stumbled on the greens a bit on my way to a front nine 40. I wish I would have packed a second putter with a soft insert like my Odyssey White Hot Tour. But that is my fault for not packing it. Even if I had, knowing my luck that one would have been broken in transit like my Pitching Wedge.
On #8 our fate was sealed. The skies opened up and the 25 mph wind became a chillingly cold 35+. For a guy who saw snow 2 days before, I was ready to press on. For Vegas guys in shorts and short sleeve shirts, it had to feel like an arctic tundra.
We packed it in and called it a day. My buddy Drue and I went to have a bite and that was that. We were set to play a
couple days later. After all, the whole reason for the trip was to attend a wedding. But who lets things like nuptials get in the way of golf?
The next couple days were spent catching up with friends and some light gambling. Golf would wait till Monday, but that wait was with massive anticipation. Monday would take me to my favorite course in the area.
