My Favorite Golf Balls ALL TIME

March 13th, 2009

golf-photos-032Golf balls have changed SEVERELY over the years. I sometimes find myself wishing for the days of yesteryear when it comes to golf balls. Some shots were so much easier to execute with a golf ball from years gone by. I got to thinking…”What golf balls have I absolutely LOVED over my golf career.

There are a few…

1) The Nike Tour Accuracy TW

This is my favorite golf ball of all time. I remember, vividly, the class action lawsuit that led to this ball being available. Nike released a Tour Accuracy golf ball and advertised it as “Tiger’s ball.” It was not and they later had to release the TW to the public. It was a great ball. I do not have Tiger’s swing or ability, but the ball spun like a top with a flatter trajectory which fit my swing profile perfectly. I could punch this ball and stop it very quickly and that was my game in a nutshell.

2) The Tour Edition

The first of the 2-piece spin balls that I can remember. This ball had distance like a Top-Flite but spun almost like a Balata. It was the first time that we had experienced a marriage of distance and spin in a golf ball. It flew a touch high for me, but it was a fantastic ball. It had a really cool logo too.

3) Maxfli HT-Balata

If I was going to play a balata, which was all you could at one point, it was this one. The Maxfli felt better, to me, thangolf-photos-020 the Titleist and was more durable. If I sculled it, it was going to get cut, but if I hit it square, I rarely had any issues with the cover’s durability. The box they came in looked great too. The tan coloring of the box was so different than all the other “power” colors out at the time.

4) Maxfli M3

They made an M3 and an A3 at the time.  The M3 was the softer of the two and had a great feel. The distance was not great for the balls of the time, but it played very well. I also had my first hole in one with an M3 so there may be a little bit of a sentimentality to this vote ha ha.

5) Bridgestone E5+

My current favorite ball ranks higher than the Pro V1, the Callaway rule 35 blue, the Srixon Z-URS, and the other ones that just about made this list. The Bridgestone wins out because of durability and the way the ball plays. The spin is a click below the 4 it beat out, but the distance is far beyond the “also rans.” A great overall golf ball for a variety of players.
