Tiger Woods the politician?
Years ago Earl Woods gave an interview where he said that “Tiger is going to change the world.”
Yesterday, that time may have come on Capitol Hill.
I am going to preface this blog by saying that, at the time of writing, I had not heard or read a transcript of Tiger’s speech so I have no basis for conversation of WHAT he said. What I am going to focus on is the fact that he HAD something to say.
Tiger has, to this point, stayed fairly clear of the publicity of politics. He is a very rich man which, as the media will lead us to believe, means he, most likely, tends to the right side of the political landscape. In fact, most golfers, historically, have.
The thing is that Tiger is multi-racial and is considered a minority in the United States. Is it any wonder that he chose to accept an invite to speak at the first minority President’s inauguration celebration? Perhaps this was Tiger’s ascendancy toward what his Father knew all along.
If Tiger decides to open his life and thoughts to the public he will choose a vastly different path than the athlete his life, most closely, mirrors, Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan never allowed the public into the political, or life choices, side of his personality. I remember one particular quote Jordan gave where he was asked about his political “duty” to support a particular candidate and he said “Republicans buy shoes too.”
If Tiger decides to forgo that path and foray into politics, it will be his choice to be different. It will be his decision to abandon the humanitarian efforts he has worked so hard for with the Tiger Woods Foundation. It will be his decision.
Has the day that Tiger changes the world come? Is it already here? Or did it happen years ago and THIS is just another use of his image to further HIS OWN humanitarian efforts?
Time will tell………

This guy has NO personality. He is a terrible speaker. He is a hell of a golfer, but leave it at that.
Thanks for the link Kevin. I have watched it a couple times and it sure seems that he did not rehearse that speech much past reading it off the teleprompter.
